Ponoi River Co. Owner Ilya Sherbovich is a dedicated and passionate fly angler. He began fishing at 4 years of age under the guidance of his father and grandfather, and since those formative years his enthusiasm for the sport has grown exponentially. Ilya has taken numerous species on the fly worldwide, and he is considered a noted authority on anadramous species and the craft of Spey casting. He has spearheaded multiple exploratory ventures to un-fished regions of the Russian North, Siberia, and the Far East.
After first fishing the Ponoi River as a guest, Ilya acquired PRC in 2006, and has since overseen both the conservation management of the fishery and the complete renovation of Ryabaga Camp. He is wholly engaged in the protection of wild salmon, the promotion of catch-and-release, and a range of associated protection/conservation initiatives. Ilya serves on the Board of both the Russian Salmon Association and The Wild Salmon Center.
